Against my better judgment I tried this noodle dive again. I tried the Pho soup. It was a bland salty broth. That's all I will say. I'm trying to be nice. I don't wish for any business to go under; this place will do so all on their own. The only way they can succeed is by cutting their prices in half. Nice size portions of sub standard food. Go elsewhere.

Tried this place for the first time last night. I had pho with beef and my husband had chow mien with chicken. I'm not sure how they can call this pho when the broth tastes nothing like traditional pho broth and they do not offer typical pho garnishes. Needless to say, I did not care for my soup. The chow mien wasn't too bad. The sauce was pretty good as well as the chicken. Vegetables were a little scarce. We had carry out so I'm not sure about their service, but the restaurant appeared clean.

You get a gigantic portion of noodles for a great price. The flavor is really good and you will always leave incredibly full with at least 2 meals worth of leftovers. I got the pacific noodles and they were amazing. I also tried the mocha coffee bubble tea and the flavor was great. The service was good and all employees were very friendly and welcoming. I would highly recommend this place.

I really like this place. I dont know why people have given it negative reviews. I mean sure its not THE BEST or super authentic but it is tasty and one of the best Asian food i have found down river. I have yet to find something from this place that disappoints me. I have had the UDON and i love it! I tried the Pad Thai which was pretty good, Sweet and sour chicken was AWESOME some of the best in the area. The sweet and sour sauce is great i like it because its not your typical super sweet bright orange sauce, its a soft yellow color and it is actually sour and sweet it was impressive to me. The wanton soup is great, where Chinese places only put one wanton and and one bean sprout in their soup this places wanton was LOADED with good stuff, spinach tons of sprouts and more then enough wantons my only complaint about the wanton soup is the broth flavor, i feel like something is missing seasoning wise but i cant pin point what it is. I love the crab Rangoon here too. Im not a huge fan of bubble tea to begin with but my fiance loves their bubble tea. I see some people complaining about portions in their reviews, im not sure why, the portions here are pretty large for the price, not unless you eat like a starving pig at an all you can eat buffet, then they might be small. The portions here usually can last me about 2-3 different meals. So I could eat one dish 2-3 nights in a row for dinner if i wanted. I have not eating in the restaurant before, we always get it to go. The interior has a 1970s early 80s feel to it, it was quiet and clean. all in all this place is good so I think you should try and and people who were not so happy with this place should give it another go with an open mind.

Best pho I've had downriver! Granted, that's not saying a whole lot... but still delicious.

UPDATE: We have returned a few times and tried a few more things on the menu. The good news is broccoli has been added to the veggie list. Unfortunately every dish has been bland. No spices or seasoning at all, except for the spicy rice noodles which had chili flakes and that's it. My wife had to dump pepper into her ramen to eat it and it still didn't really help. These noodles are good comfort food but the chef needs to start bringing the flavor. I used to be a take out regular at the original Hop Sheing Chinese restaurant back when I still ate meat. So I was sad when they closed and extremely excited to see Hop Sheing Noodle House under construction. I liked the simple menu concept and the availability of tofu. It was great to see many full tables at 6:30 on a Wednesday night. Based on food quality alone this place should only get three stars. But where else Downriver are you going to find Pho, bubble tea and Mochi ice cream? Bonus star! Hop Sheing needs just a few tweaks to really deserve four or five stars. The menu on their Facebook page has descriptions of the 7 different noodle entrée options, but they are missing from the in-house menus. Pictures might help too. The veggie choices are a good start but staples like mushrooms, broccoli and bok choy are conspicuously absent. Also it's great they offer Mochi but our waitress couldn't explain what it was. Our meal started with a complementary bowl of fried wide noodles that were dusted with cinnamon and sugar. A little different but very tasty, they just needed to be served with soup or some dipping sauce. I ordered the spicy Hong Kong noodles with tofu and my wife tried the udon with shrimp. We both asked for all the veggies which are onion, carrot, green onion, pea pods and bean sprouts. Mine was nicely spiced Cantonese lo mein with a generous amount of nicely fried tofu, but the dish was dry and the sprouts were missing! The portion was easily enough to split for two people. The udon was fine but could have used a tempura option. Our adventurous kiddo loved the egg drop soup which was thick and creamy while our picky eater stuck to edamame. We finished with strawberry and red bean Mochi ice cream, mango and green tea flavours are also available.

Husband and I love the Chicken Pad Thai and Crab Rangoon. Very tasty and you get a TON of food for the price. Well worth it. I didn't care for the almond chicken, it had a different type of breading and the sauce was kind of gelatinous. The General chicken is pretty good too. Check them out!!!

This is our second time eating at the Noodle house and this time we carried out. I ordered two dinners and they must have weighed 5 lbs each. We have enough food for tomorrow and the next day, the most per order I have ever seen, The food is not traditional Chinese, it is a noodle house and that is what you should expect. These noodles dishes are some of the best I have ever had. I really enjoy Thai food and while this is not as spicy, the noodle dishes do compare. If you like noodle dishes and want something outside of regular Chinese restaurant food, then this is the place for you.

I was really hoping to have a better experience but, none of the staff had ever worked in customer service, or none of them cared about getting a tip. Resteraunt had a plain decor, no music on except the blender going on and off in the kitchen. I sent my meal back and chose not to get anything else, something was just not right about the beef. I don't think I'd go back. They have a lot to work on.

Well yelpers based on your reviews I went here during a diet in need of "bland" and low calorie meal. The reviews of bland Pho written from fellow yelpers let me know that they have a low sodium broth. So the bland helped me to not eat a lot of the pho (not pho by the way). If you try something different go right ahead but I wouldn't bring company here to eat. Won't be back even the vege's are skinny and scared. Pros: 1.) Well they did provide a low calorie necessity for me which equals one star 2.) No wait off street private parking 3.) Attentive waitress second star Cons: 1.) Over cooked noodles 2.) Terrible Pho broth 3.) Generic and bland dining area and dish

Despite having no shortage of Chinese restaurants in the Downriver area, when I saw a Noodle House pop up in Lincoln Park, I got excited at the prospect of fining a new favorite, so off we went on a Sunday afternoon. Now, the experience is radically different than what you are used to. This is a noodle house (and not the usual Chinese food), and there is very little you will find familiar with the menu. We entered with happy anticipation of something different, and we were not disappointed. The restaurant is very nicely spartan, with very little in the way of decor. The dining room is very clean and well-maintained. There was no ambient music playing, so mostly what we listened to as we perused the menu were the pleasant conversations going on around us. The hostess seated us with menus and explained how it all worked. You choose one 'style' (of noodles), one meat and as many vegetables as you want. You check off your selections on pre-printed order sheets that you give to the wait person. I ordered from the House Selects menu: Almond Chicken with noodles and Chinese Vegetable soup. The other side of the table ordered Hong Kong style noodles (egg noodles fried in a red pepper oil), chicken, and all available veggies. We sat and enjoyed some hot tea and fried dumplings while we waited for our entrees. Chopsticks were on the table instead of the usual silverware, but silverware came out with the entrees and we didn't have to ask. Probably wise, because my chopstick skills are shamefully weak. There are a few American choices on the menu for the less adventurous among you. And Bubble Tea, for the more adventurous among you. When the entrees came out in decent time they were large, well-presented and very hot and fresh. My almond chicken was crisply battered and nicely arranged atop a layer of hot, fine egg noodles and under a layer of oddly bland brown gravy. The other side of the table reported hot and delicious chicken, spicy noodles and well-cooked veggies. Our waitress was quick, and personable. She answered all of our questions with a smile on her face, and after dinner, she offered dessert. Mochi, two-inch round bonbon-type ice cream treats covered in a thin layer of mashed, sweetened sticky rice. They came in several flavors--vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, green tea and red bean. We choose the green tea, and two of them came out with--oddly--an italian pizzelle cookie in between them on the plate, the whole thing drizzled with chocolate syrup. Entirely delicious, they were the perfect ending to the meal. We left very happy, with enough food remaining for lunch the next day. The whole meal cost just a shade under $30 and was definitely worth it.

Food was amazing, bubble tea was something I have never experienced a drink like this before but my taste buds were pleasured and have found a new craving! Strawberry Mango was probably my favorite! Fair pricing and huge portions. I am very pleased to have a place like this so close. This place will be around for along time! And their future is bright, keep up the good work! Please don't bring down the quality or portions. 5 stars

One of our family favorite restaurants. We go there every other week for the super large portions of great food they serve. The Pad Thai is incredible. The menu is different, they give u a pen and u check off everything u want as in noodles, sauce, meat, and a variety of veggies. Great staff and a nice size eating area, very clean. Have your kids try the bubble shake, its different from the norm and it really tastes like captain crunch. Lol. Its a lil pricey but u will have lunch for a few days with their massive portions.

A solid fulfilling meal, but falls a few steps short. I've eaten the Udon and the Pho because I love broth based soups. The udon was good but maybe a little too salty, there isn't a lot of nuance for a dish that really relies on the nuance and depth of flavor of the broth. The veggies and noodles and meat are served on the side of the broth so you can take it with and add as necessary. This is great for transporting the meal, but I would like if maybe even just the noodles are added to the broth- so they can soak up the flavor before you eat it. I'm disappointed in the Pho. As others have said, it is not really Pho. It is salty and a little sweet, but there are none of the comforting clove and spice flavors I would expect from a traditional Pho. The meat portion that comes on the side is also disappointing - especially considering the prices they add to the meal. Fortunately, the meat is good quality (but again, not in the broth, so the flavor from cooking it is lost). I have tried the Hong Kong noodles from a friend, which were fantastic. I think the spicy noodles here are the way to go, and there are several types. The staff is always very friendly and attentive - I saw them explaining the menu patiently to some customers inside and helping them understand the menu. The customers were clueless, I wouldn't have had the patience to deal with it, but that's why I am no longer in food service. I would love to give this a better rating, because the service and staff are awesome, and the portions are huge and filling. But I think serving a traditional dish in a way that is unsatisfying is a bad move. I'll update after I try a few of their other options- its worth another go.

The menu is a "build-your-own" model. You choose from 7 types of noodles (some are soup, some are stir-fried noodles), then choose your meat, seafood or tofu and the veggies. They also have a couple of house entrees, quite a few appetizers, mochi and bubble tea. I had the spicy rice noodles (which came with egg, though the menu made no mention of them). They weren't actually very spicy, but the portion was huge and the meal was filling. The tofu was nicely fried and the veggies were good. My husband had the udon soup with beef and found it a little sweet, but enjoyable once he added some siracha and salt. I think it will probably take a few visits to create the perfect dish, but we'll definitely be back. The pricing is reasonable and the food was good.

The best noodle house around the downriver area. Big portions a great selection of different types of noodles. The bubble tea is very good.

I've waiting for a long time for a place like Hop Sheing, and I'm so happy that it's less than 15 minutes away from home. I love the simplicity of the make-your-own noodle dish and make-your-own bubble tea menus, it's something I haven't seen since I last visited MSU and U of M. I'm happy to find out a young MSU grad owns Hop Sheing. I have very high expectations for any place that boasts their skills in noodle dishes and bubble tea, I would say Hop Sheing has met those expectations and then some. The bubbles in the bubble tea are cooked through, but not overdone. The tea is flavorful, and the proprotions of tea to bubbles is well balanced. We loved the crab rangoon. For the low cost, I wasn't expecting 8 pieces, much less crab rangoon that are loaded with the crab/cream cheese filling. I had the ramen with roast pork with some carrots, broccoli, and peapod and I loved it all. The broth was flavorful, the ramen noodles were al dente, the roast pork was tender, and the veggies were cooked through but not mushy. When the bowl first arrived, I honestly looked at it and thought there was no way this was enough, but I left with a small amount of leftovers for the next day. I'm looking forward to going back to Hop Sheing to try the pho next. I have my favorite pho restaurants that has set the gold standard, I'm interested to see how Hop Sheing will compare. The service was great, the server came by often to check on us and was ready to answer any questions we have. It also appears they do a solid takeout business, which I'm happy to see. I can't wait to go back.

I'll admit that I don't think of Lincoln Park as a culinary destination city very often, but the buzz on social media was that this place was legit - and they were right! I love bubble tea, and the only bubble tea I've had in Michigan thus far has been overcooked and somewhat nasty, with limited flavors. Not so at Hop Sheing! Not only do they have tons of flavors, but they let you mix and match them to your heart's delight. Any place that lets me blend lychee and coconut is alright by me. We started with the crab rangoon, expecting something bland with a bit of cream cheese and scallions inside. These came out piping hot, with tasty crab and a delicious savory-sweet blend inside. The sweet/sour sauce mixed with hot sauce made the perfect dual flavor dipping sauce. But if you're a baby about hot food like I am, give them a few minutes to cool first! My companion loves soupy noodles like ramen and pho, and I love fried noodles like lo mein, pad thai, and rice noodles. This menu had plenty of options for both of us. We took another Yelper's advice and got the roast pork, which was a wonderful decision. I tried the Hong Kong Noodles (spicy) with all the veggies and it was excellent. My companion's ramen was a likewise delicious dish. Definitely the best noodles overall that I've had since I was in Hong Kong earlier this year - and maybe even better than some of my dishes there :) The warnings that the portions are huge are valid - I ate to my heart's content and still have enough leftovers for two lunch portions, all for a VERY reasonable $10. The servers were pleasant and welcoming, seeming to understand that much of the clientele (like me) might be a bit confused and/or intimidated by the unique way the menu works. Choose a form of noodles or soup, then choose your meats, then choose your vegetables - it's not like ordering a plate of General Tsao. I will be going back here to try a few more dishes, and some of my favorite Vietnamese, Chinese, and Thai restaurants are all simultaneously put on notice that they have competition coming from the same location.

I'm a regular customer here now, as each time I come I'm never disappointed. My favorite is the ramen, my boyfriend usually gets the Shanghai or the Hong Kong. First of all, I need to talk about this broth. The ramen broth is rich and full of that delicious umami flavor, the first time I tried it I was amazed. I get either chicken or shrimp ramen because I prefer their ramen over the udon. My boyfriend is in love with their roast pork meat option. It's a 'build your meal' type noodle house, so it's priced according to the meat you choose. Any vegetable add-ons are free with the dish. No matter what, the portions are enormous if you're getting the noodle dish. I'm also addicted to bubble tea, so this being the first place downriver to get decent bubble tea makes me a very happy camper. They're since added multiple new flavors of teas since their opening, which have all been quite good. The staff are always friendly and polite. If you haven't been there before, I've always seen them be very patient in explaining their dishes, even to the old and unfamiliar. I watched the owner explain the dishes to an elderly couple for about twenty minutes and she never sounded impatient. The interior is calm and quite pretty. They always have some sort of classical music playing, which I find quite amusing. Also, I don't think I've ever had to wait for longer then 15 minutes for food to come out. If you're getting carry-out, know that you're getting all your mix-ins served on the side, which I feel like makes it lack that proper melding of flavors, so I do prefer to dine-in if I'm going. All in all, I love this place and I will return as often as possible. :)

I've wanted authentic ramen for years but the closest place I could find was a few hours away so I never thought I would have a chance to try it until I found this place practically in my back yard. I ordered pork ramen and a bubble tea and the ramen was so much better than that 25 cent stuff you find at the grocery stores. The waitress I got was incredibly nice too, I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone who cares to listen and I'm definitely coming back here again.

Came in here on a freezing cold Sunday night with my girlfriend who has been here before. Upon first impression its a typical Asian restaurant. Typical decor, typical tables and chairs. We were created by the proprietor who seated us immediately. There were 6-7 other tables when we arrived which was surprising because from the road it looked empty! The menu is simple and easily laid out, my girlfriend had the pad Thai and I had the Yaki udon . We also ordered egg drop soup and crab ran goons. The soup came out piping hot, perfect! The rangoons came out just as we finished our soups and they were also very good. Not overly crispy, just right. Next came our main dishes. The Yaki udon I had was amazing. Hands down one of the best noodle dishes I've ever had. Not to mention the amount you get for the price is an amazing bargain. You gotta try this place, once, at least. You can thank me later.

The amazing food makes up for the lack of decoration/dull interior. Large proportions with many options. Food could use a little more seasoning but other than that no complaints. Unfortunately their bubble tea isn't too great as they used their hot tea for it so it was really warm. Also our drinks had too many bubbles for the cup. Still delicious though. The owner (?) came up to us and asked how everything was and she see,ed genuinely interested in how the customers like the food. Service was a little inconsiderate but our waitress definitely seemed new. I'm giving them a 4 star review because I don't believe they deserve a low 3 star overall ranking, more of a 3.5.

Bland "pho", which resembled no pho I have ever seen. I get the impression that authenticity is not the goal of the management. Seems they are catering to the downriver palate. Portions were large, prices were low. Service was decent. I won't be back.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
